Cape San Blas
Cape San Blas is truly "old Florida" in its finest, most pristine form. It is one of the most spectacular beaches, not only in Florida but throughout the US. "The Cape" as it is commonly referred to, is a peninsula bordered by the Gulf on one side and St. Joseph Bay on the other. And at the tip is St. Joseph Peninsula State Park, which was ranked as the #1 beach in American by Dr. Beach in 2002.
Kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, scalloping, shelling, bird and wildlife watching, camping, horseback riding…you can do it all at the Cape. The Loggerhead Run Bike Path runs the entire length of the Cape from the State Park to Salinas Park and is great for biking, walking and/or jogging. And just like all Gulf County Beaches, the beaches are pet-friendly.
Just down the road along CR-30A between Cape San Blas and Apalachicola, is Indian Pass, another barrier peninsula. Burrowed in all the natural vegetation lie some beautiful gulf front and marsh front homes. There is also a free public ramp very popular among locals as it is a quick ride to some of the best offshore fishing you will find in Florida. And of course, Indian Pass is probably best known for being home to the world famous Indian Pass Raw Bar.
From the shores of Indian Pass you can see St. Vincent Island, a national wildlife refuge which is a haven for endangered and threatened species. There is a shuttle to St. Vincent Island that leaves from the public boat ramp daily.
Due to the popularity of families vacationing on Cape San Blas and Indian Pass, gulf front homes have the potential for huge rental income each year. But buying Cape San Blas real estate can be complicated…flood zones, elevations, coastal construction control line, FEMA.
